AMPLIFY’D
How can healthy living support reach cancer survivors and the people close to them?
The overall program
AMPLIFY’D is an NCI-funded program bringing an evidence-based online healthy eating, physical activity, and weight-management intervention into broader use for cancer survivors and their family and friends. Led by Laura Rogers and Wendy Demark-Wahnefried at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the program connects cancer survivorship with the wider prevention opportunities within survivors’ social networks.
Its three integrated projects examine delivery through a health system, dissemination through family and friend networks, and long-term weight-loss maintenance through a refresher intervention. Together, they study how the program can reach more people, support engagement, and sustain healthier behaviors.
Project 2: Family and Friends
Travis works on Project 2, AMPLIFY’D Family and Friends, led by Dori Pekmezi and Wendy Demark-Wahnefried. This project tests whether theory- and empirically-driven social network strategies can increase adoption and broad use of AMPLIFY’D compared with standard referral support. Cancer survivors refer family and friends to the program, allowing the team to study how relationships and network structure influence its spread and use.
The study combines referral tracking, website-use data, and social network analysis to understand who adopts the program and what supports engagement. It also evaluates weight management, diet quality, physical activity, physical function, and quality of life among participating family and friends without a history of cancer, extending the program’s prevention focus beyond survivorship.
Travis’s contribution
As a Co-Investigator on Project 2, Travis contributes social network intervention design and analysis, dissemination and implementation expertise, and the study of program adoption and spread.
